Poodles are considered one of the most intelligent dog breeds. In history, they have been trained to perform in circuses and as an indispensable hunting companion. They are hyperactive and possess a keen sense of instinctual drive particularly marking and hunting drives. Without constant physical and mental stimulation, poodles can easily get bored and have been known to get into mischief. They are excellent watchdogs and good with kids, particularly standard poodles. They don’t shed thus they are perfect for allergy sufferers. They need regular hair brushing and grooming but some owners choose to trim down their pet’s hair for lower maintenance and less work. The AKC classifies Poodles based on their height—toy poodles are 10 inches or under, miniatures poodles are over 10 inches but less than 15 inches, while standard poodles are over 15 inches—at the highest point of the shoulders.
