The Shih Tzu is a crossbreed of three recognized dog breeds—Tibetan mountain dog, Lhasa Apso, and the Pekingese. It is considered the smallest and oldest dog breed that originated from Tibet. Although playful and non-aggressive, they are sensitive and can snap if teased endlessly. They have a stubborn streak but because of their intelligence, they can easily be trained. Since they are prone to obesity, care should be given on their diet and nutrition. Shih Tzus are bred as companion dogs, thus they crave being the center of attention. They love to cuddle and are playful. They can suffer from stress-related disorders if they feel that they don’t constantly get the desired attention from their owners. They can be prone to aggressive tendencies therefore they should receive early and extensive socialization.
