Shih Tzu

The Shih Tzu is a happy little dog oozing with character. It is very friendly and can easily gain friends. It is highly alert and attentive, outstanding characteristics that make them good watch dogs. They love to be around people are can live well with other pets in the household. There are some Shih Tzu which are difficult to housebreak. Generally they respond well to patient and consistent training. They need a human pack leader who will dominate them or else they will take over, causing them to develop undesirable behavior including snapping, growling or biting. It is a good dog for apartment living because they are highly sensitive to heat. Daily walks provide them the physical and mental stimulation and fulfill their primitive impulse to stroll along. Shih Tzu’s that don’t receive enough exercise tend to develop behavior problems thus even though they make good apartment pets, they still need their daily walks.
