9. Poodle

Only a fraction of dog owners know that in spite of a primadona reputation, the Poodle is considered by many dog experts as the second smartest dog breed. Its forefathers had the reputation of being excellent hunting dogs, watchdogs, and rescue dogs. Even the very cute Toy Poodle previously worked as a bird hunter. There are three recognized varieties of the breed. They are primarily distinguished based on their sizes. Poodles are very protective of the members of the pack.
