I am an older than my years beat up woman with brain damage, LOL - no really, that is the short of it anyway and I cannot explain in just a few words what my now 4 month old (ready to start some semi-serious training) blue nose pit bull, Gracie, has done for the quality of my life.
I received my gift through fate, at about 3 1/2 weeks old. She has slept with me every night of her life, has gone from seeking the protection of my crooked legs or warm belly, to laying her head protectively over my neck or head. As you may have guessed, I have been attacked and brutalized. Before Gracie I carried a loaded shotgun with me to every room, perched it next to me for ALL bathroom activities, slept with it by my side. It now stays in one handy place. My Gracie has done that for me already!
I have a real problem with consistency, due to my dementia- like symptoms - but I am not a first timer with a large dog and she has already picked up a lot of the basics, plus - I have a balance problem and fall a lot, this resulted a month ago in a broken foot. It took one trip down the hall to teach this 3 month old bouncing puppy to walk behind me at a slow pace and safe distance. I believe she can be - I don't know - rubbing elbows with a service dog for me. I haven't the funds or ability to go out on a regular basis, to get it done professionally ... I believe this site, and the help of this forum will help me to remain focused with her and I may just be able to pull it off myself, here at home.
