4. English Bulldog

English Bulldogs intimidating appearance hides one of the gentlest dog breeds in the world. It is one of the dog breeds which can live well with children and is also known for its excellent guarding abilities. They can reach a height of 12-16 inches and can weigh around 51-55 pounds. When used as a show dog, shorter Bulldogs are much more desirable.

English Bulldogs are an indoor breed and do best in temperature climates. They often have trouble cooling off in hot weather and can easily suffer from heat stroke. They are prone to breathing problems because of their small windpipes.

Most whelping by English bulldogs are thru caesarian section because even as puppies, they already have broad heads.

The breed is thought to come from the British Isles and is a descendant of the ancient Asiatic mastiff. It acquired its name when it was used in bull baiting and for its bull-like appearance.

Today an English Bulldog can cost around $2,500 – $9,000.
